about

CJSR's bicycle traffic reporter, Karly Coleman, told us about a writer for the Guardian who laments the lost hippies and slow-coaches who used to ride bikes, before we became obsessed by speed, lycra and bettering our segments on Strava. We wonder though if the past really was as it is remembered, and also if today is really is all that competitive (or are those competitive ones just more vocal, by the social design of the tools). Coleman then went on to look at the demographic shifts in cyclists in the US, though it was hard to see a correlation behind an increase in Hispanic and Black riders as leading to a more competitive whole.
