about

Richard Louv coined the phrase "Nature Deficit Disorder" to describe society's disconnect with nature, and the resulting impacts it is having on our use of senses, our increased attention difficulties and higher rates of physical and emotional illness.

Louv spoke to us ahead of a talk at the UofA campus, where we discussed environmental religion, the shift in what nature means to us and how broad the influence of his work has been.

Alberta Parks coordinate several programs with new immigrants to encourage them to engage with nature. Kevin Cantelon, Environmental Education Coordinator, told us what these programs mean to new Canadians, and how they strengthen family bonds.

The bike is a perfect tool to experience nature, Karly Coleman, CJSR's bicycle traffic reporter tells us, as she experiences Edmonton's river valley. But are some of the technologies that get us to nature detracting from a quality experience?
