about

On Bike Bits today with CJSR's bicycle traffic reporter Karly Coleman we looked at the City of Edmonton's Urban Planning Committee motion to recommend council approve a separated bicycle grid in Edmonton's downtown to be installed by the summer of 2017.

Councillors Ben Henderson and committee chair Andrew Knack joined the discussion, whilst advocates Chris Chan from Edmonton Bicycle Commuters Society and Michael Phair from Paths for People told us how this centre-based approach to active transportation was important for their members.

"This will be a benefit to everybody, because it will create clarity and understanding and erase those places where everybody's coming into clashes with each other," said Michael Phair.

"I think we can get the 2017 piece [which] will be the downtown core and I'm hoping we will be ready to go in 2018 with the southside core," said Councillor Ben Henderson, on future bike infrastructure.
