As the prairie sky goes on and on, so too do the backroads of Alberta. Since 1994, when the Tour de France ends, cyclists across Alberta convene to ride their own tour around the Francophone communities of rural central Alberta. This year that ride is on Sunday July 29, starting in the community of Beaumont, and it's called the Tour de l'Alberta.
On the bike report today, with CJSR's bicycle traffic reporter Karly Coleman, we chatted to Tour de l'Alberta event manager Allen Jacobson about the ride that offers lengths starting at 50km, going to 100km and even the classic century ride of about 165km. A fitting tribute to the French tour that challenges pros, this accessible ride will challenge everyone from recreational riders looking for their first longer ride, to those who are training for something that will go on and on, just like that sky.
